STOP. THINK. PREVENT. BLOG.
My friend Carolyn McCabe GUGLIELMO MS,RYT,GSP made an interesting comment the other day regarding the "essence of workplace safety"
I have been posting a lot lately about suicide, and addiction, and mental health. These are things that so few of us speak of... until crisis strikes. Addiction is the only disease that usually doesn't get treated until it has done tremendous damage. Suicide is so often "a surprise". Mental health issues are referred to frequently in the same sentence as the word "stigma". Stigma. Or discrimination? Check your insurance for "physical care" versus "mental health care" and you'll see examples. I like the use of the word "essence". Health and Safety isn't about regulatory compliance. It's about being human beings who care about each other, and actively participate in improving their workplaces and their lives. It's about communication - not just telling someone, but sharing. Not just talking, but expressing. Emoting. Education, not just training. Lives. That is a very comprehensive term. It includes so SO much. Let's continue to work together to ensure that each is as full as it can be. No lost opportunities. Because One IS Too Many. That is truly the essence of it all. Peace. |
